Cookware
Basics: Sometimes preparing a meal becomes a complex game where you try to figure out how many pots and pans you can fit on your stovetop, then stack in the sink. A pan exists for nearly every type of food one would wish to cook; usually utilizing the appropriate cookware yields the best flavor and results. A griddle is preferred over a skillet for pancakes because it's easier to maneuver a spatula underneath each cake. When making sauce for two servings of food, it's preferable to have a small sauce pan. A big spaghetti dinner demands a large pot for all that pasta. Often people would rather use a non-stick skillet to saute meat or vegetables than something in stainless steel that's harder to clean. But when it comes to searing salmon, nothing beats the perfect crust that only the heat-generating nature of stainless steel can provide. Cookware involves more than stovetop necessities. So much cooking happens in the oven as well as the stovetop. Broiling cooks meat quickly and retains a lot of natural juices. Baking is essential for casseroles. Roasting seals in juices and allows the cook to prepare larger portions for a big family meal or simply to have leftovers available. One exciting way many enjoy roasting is in a clay pot. In the days of antiquity, dishes were prepared in earthenware pots first soaked in water. Today people notice that clay allows food to retain its natural flavors, and that it's a very healthy way to prepare food.
